As the mobile communication equipment market continues to grow at a rapid pace, further size reduction and lower profile connectors are being sought after to meet the overall shrinking size of these mobile products. To address this requirement Murata Electronics has introduced the world’s smallest surface mount microwave switch connector for wireless applications. The miniaturized switch connector measures only 2.5 x 2.5 x 1.4 millimeters (mm) and is designed to reliably test microwave frequencies throughout a products development stage to final production. The small footprint is ideal for cell phones, smart phones, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), Global Positioning Satellites (GPSs) and measurement equipment. The SWF series is also an excellent fit for advanced devices such as Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN), WiMax, Ultra Wide Band (UWB), Bluetooth and Zigbee technologies.
In addition to its small size, the new switch connector’s test probes are compatible with the larger SWD series connectors. Therefore there is no need to change test probes when transitioning to the smaller SWF series, making it easier for engineers to incorporate the connector into designs. Other key features of the switch connector include its wide operating frequency from DC to 6GHz, which covers all the popular bands, to it's excellent insertion loss (IL) characteristics and high number of probe engagements (100 cycles).
