AP880X Series Step-Down DC/DC Converter

Diodes, Inc. AP880X SeriesDiodes Inc and Digi-Key introduce the AP880X Series a family of LED driver ICs that significantly reduce the number and size of external components required by drive circuits. Operating at switching frequencies up to 600kHz, AP880X Series step-down, DC-DC converters require only four smaller and lower cost inductors and/or capacitors. Ensuring uniform LED brightness and eliminating the need for ballast resistors, the drivers suit a broad range of high-brightness, general illumination duties, including signage, architectural and emergency lighting, and MR16 lamp replacement.

AP880X ICs drive up to 13 series-connected LEDs with a constant current, from voltage sources between 8V and 48V, with efficiencies up to 92%. An integrated soft-start function reduces LED stress and extends lifetime. A choice between PWM and DC input dimming control increases design flexibility. All AP880X devices come in the industry standard SOP-8L package. The AP8800 and AP8801 are also available in the MSOP-8L package, and the AP8802 in exposed pad DFN and SOP-8L packages.

AP8800


The AP8800 is a step-down DC/DC converter designed to drive LEDs with a constant current. The device can drive up to seven LEDs, depending on the forward voltage of the LEDs, in series from a voltage source of 8V to 28V. Series connection of the LEDs provides identical LED currents resulting in uniform brightness and eliminates the need for ballast resistors. The AP8800 switches at frequency up to 0.6MHz.
