3M™ MetPak™ HSHM Press-Fit B19 Connectors
What if you could supercharge legacy VME and cPCI backplanes to 5 Gbps without disruptive and
expensive backplane redesign and a forklift chassis upgrade?
3M™ MetPak™ High Speed Hard Metric
(HSHM) Press-Fit B19 Connectors are designed to resolve this problem and provide a cost-effective
upgrade to higher speed. With speeds up to 5 Gbps, 3M MetPak HSHM B19 fully shielded connector
mates with 2 mm 5 row cPCI / hard metric headers; connectors P0 on VME64x with VITA31 and P3 on
cPCI with PICMG 2.16. Full pin-to-pin compatibility can be maintained with existing VME and cPCI
backplanes. A performance improvement up to 3X can be obtained by using daughter cards with MetPak
HSHM B19 sockets mated to standard 5 row 2 mm hard metric headers.

- Typically HM connectors are not used in applications above 1 Gbps.
- HM headers are mated to HSHM sockets provide tremendous improvement in eye opening and jitter up to at least 5 Gbps.
3M™ MetPak™ HSHM Press-Fit Connectors provide:
- Data rates up to 5 Gbps
- Low crosstalk at high frequencies
- True signal density: 5 row 63 mated pairs per linear inch
- 50/100 ohm (single-ended / differential) impedance
- Selective shielding in rows and/or columns
- Industry standard format for hard metric (IEC 61076-4-101)
- Dual beam contact construction for high reliability

Ground Man - Ground Monitors for Tools
3M™ Ground Man Monitors offer continuous monitoring of proper ground connection of up to
3 points in the tools. With individual status indication, Ground Man Monitors show which
ground connection is being monitored, which one is within specification and which one has
failed. Patented enabling feature for each ground connection allows for accurate and safe
indication of ground condition for each monitored point.
Miniature and unobtrusive, the Ground Man Monitors are easy to install and easy to connect.
Ground impedance alarm levels can be set by the user to satisfy a broad range of requirements
and compliance with such standards as ANSI 6.1 and ANSI/ESDA S.20.20. Examples of
applications for Ground Man Monitors include SMT pick-and-place tools, IC handlers, wire
bonders, die attach and other tools.
Iron Man™ Workstation Monitors
3M™ Iron Man™ Workstation Monitors measure voltage directly on the circuit board during
assembly. If there is any electrical overstress (EOS) on the board, 3M Iron Man Monitors will
provide both an audio and a visual alarm to the operator.
The 3M™ Iron Man™ Plus Workstation Monitor adds complete monitoring of the entire
workbench; wrist strap and dissipative mat monitoring. The operator is monitored for proper
connectivity and for excessive body voltage. The dissipative or conductive mat is monitored
for its proper connectivity. 3M Iron Man Plus Monitors provide complete coverage of the
entire workbench for ESD and EOS.

Making LCD TVs Brighter

Cutting-edge Vikuiti™ enhancement display technology makes LCD TVs brighter by recycling light. Some Vikuiti™ films have hundreds of reflective layers in a sheet less than 1 mil thick (or about as thick as a sheet of notebook paper)!
The films enhance the performance of LCD TVs in two ways: optimizing the angle of light and recycling unused light.
Most LCD TVs are illuminated with fluorescent light bulbs. Much of the light is dispersed or wasted. Vikuiti™ optical films brighten the picture by funneling the otherwise wasted light toward the TV viewer. Select the Right TV LCD TVs work by first "polarizing" light, more than half of which is absorbed by the polarizing film. Vikuiti™ optical films recycle that absorbed light, making the picture brighter.

3M™ Scotchlok™ Communication Connectors
3M™ Scotchlok™ Butt Connectors
Scotchlok butt connectors employ a specially designed, wire insulation displacement contact to make a reliable electrical connection to each wire. A "live-spring" joint is made by driving the wire down into the "U" contact connector. This process displaces the wire insulation and grasps all conductors with a firm pressure, all in one motion. No stripping of wire insulation is required. Some connectors include a factory installed sealant to help protect against corrosion and provide moisture resistance. They are also available in dry versions for central office and vault applications.

3M™ Scotchlok™ TAP Connectors
3M™ Scotchlok™ tap connectors enable the user to tap into another wire without interrupting service. This saves the splicer valuable time. A U-shaped element inside each connector displaces wire insulation material and makes contact with the copper conductor. Some Scotchlok tap connectors also include factory-installed sealant to help against corrosion and provide moisture resistance. They are also available in dry versions for central office and vault applications.

High-performance adhesives for demanding electronics applications
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Potting Compound / Adhesive DP270 is a two-part, low viscosity
epoxy resin system designed primarily for potting, sealing, and encapsulation of
many electronic components and is available in clear or black. Scotch-Weld epoxy
potting compound/adhesive DP270 is non-corrosive to copper and offers good
thermal shock resistance and excellent retention of electrical insulation properties
under high humidity conditions.
Scotch-Weld epoxy potting compound / adhesive DP270 is ideal for the potting and
encapsulation of many heat sensitive or delicate components such as glass diodes
and sensors as well as for transformers, coils, chokes, relays, etc.
