Why has the security on the Digi-Key site changed?


Until recently, access to selected customer data, account data and simplified order entry required only customer number and postal code. Because customer number and postal code is included on numerous documents and web transmissions it provided minimal security. To further protect your personal and business data and comply with country, state and payment card industry “best practices” standards relating to data privacy, access to this account data and simplified order entry will now require you to Register. Registration offers the added advantage of access to a number of other features. The importance of this enhanced security will increase as the services and data access offered to Registered Users expands. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Please note: All credit card information is encrypted and has not been impacted by these changes.

Although you may have been a registered user with Digi-Key prior to this change, registering under this new process will not create a duplicate file for you.

Changes Existing Digi-Key Customers will experience:

Checking Order Status using customer number and zip/postal code

Due to the multiple documents/e-mails that your customer number and zip/postal code appear on together, the information could be used by non-authorized individuals to access your ordering information, including product ordered, pricing received, and invoice copies. To prevent this, order status information can now only be accessed by using the Web ID and Access ID from the specific order, or after logging in as a registered user.

Once you submit the registration form to us, we will attach your customer information to your registration. After this is complete, you will be able to access your order history under your "My Digi-Key". This is typically a 24 hour turn around time. If you need to see your order history information immediately after registering, please call us and ask for our Internet Ordering Department and they will assist you. Until Digi-Key attaches your customer profile to your registration, information such as tax exempt status may not appear correctly.

Ordering using your customer and/or account number to pre-fill information

If you have used your customer and/or account number to pre-fill information in the past, and you wish to have the information continue to pre-fill, you will now need to register. By attaching those numbers to your profile during registration, your information will pre-fill and registration will protect your shipping and billing information from being used by unauthorized users. (It may take up to 24 hours to have this information saved in your profile)

Customers new to the Digi-Key Site:

Registration

Registration is not required. If you choose to register, you will be asked to create a username, a password (minimum of 7 alpha-numeric characters, to a maximum of 50) and your e-mail address. Once you register, your shipping and billing information will pre-fill, you will have access to your order status, ordering history and a variety of other registered user tools. (see My Digi-Key for more details)

Ordering without registration

You do not have to register to place an order on Digi-Key’s site. Registration is offered so your shipping and billing information is automatically populated to save you time. Registration also provides access to your order history among other benefits.
